Investment opportunities in the tourism sector in Tenerife
The weight that the service sector carries in the economy of Tenerife is a key factor, as can be logically inferred from its geographical location, its island nature and it marked tourist vocation.
The drive for new technologies on the part of the Canary Islands authorities with the Canary Islands Digital Plan, the moratorium on tourist constructions in order to organize and limit the growth of the tourist sector; along with the push for business projects that are located on the island, are a very clear example of the qualitative leap that the Canary Islands society seek to attain in the coming years.
This context facilitates the existence of a great deal of opportunities for the service sphere in Tenerife. In the first place there is the powerful tourism sector, which welcomed 4,830,315 tourists to the island in the year 2001, with the clear predominance to those coming from the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy. This large number of tourists has an increasing number of offers open to it in this sector such as:
Golf (there are 9 courses spread all over the island)
Cruise ship tourism (in the year 2003, the ports of the province
of Santa Cruz de Tenerife received 380 cruise stop-overs and 401.000
tourists)
Adventure tourism
Cultural tourism
Rural tourism
High acquisitive power tourism
Scientific tourism
Gastronomic tourism
Conventions and Trade Fairs (the timetable for these can be consulted
on the web page of the WTC Tenerife )
Company meetings and conventions
Special activities: Antique car rallys, etc.
T
here are several convention halls on the island, with the most noted
one being the International Trade Fairs and Conventions Centre of
Tenerife. This building, designed by Santiago Calatrava, is the
biggest covered space in the Canary Islands and it has 12,000 diaphanous
m2. The maximum number of people who can attend is 15,000. It also
has a multi purpose room of 3,800 m2 with capacity for 334 people.
The SOFITESA and WTC Tenerife offices are located within its installations.
