Pueblo Chico: The Canary Islands in miniature
Pueblo Chico, in the municipal district of Tenerife, La Orotava, is a theme park that combines technology and art in numerous models representing the most typical buildings of the Canary Islands archipelago, displaying them in a chronological form. Created with 100% Canary Islands capital, it is the leading miniature city in Spain. Visitors can enter the park by a volcanic cavern, "Guanche" zone or walk through a rural area.
Botanical Garden of Tenerife
The Botanical garden of Tenerife is a cultural and scientific institution, which from the XVIII century until the present day, has managed to acclimatize plants from all over the world, especially those from Asia and America. Located in La Orotava, which was chosen as being the most temperate and suitable spot, it currently brings together a great deal of botanical species belonging to the islands and other countries of the world.
Parrot Park
Founded in 1972, with the idea of creating a park dedicated to parrots and as a tourist attraction on an island with a sub-tropical climate. It currently covers 135,000 square metres, receiving 1.5 million visitors a year. Among its attractions, the park has a "Thai Village", tigers, gorillas, bats, jaguars, sea lions, the best dolphinarium of the whole of Europe, an aquarium with sharks and the largest penguin sanctuary in the world.
Pyramids of Güimar
This houses the details about the historical discovery of the famous Pyramids of Güimar, investigated by the Norwegian scientist Thor Heyerdhal since 1991.
The Eagles of Teide
It is possible to enjoy a wide variety of exotic animals and vegetation at this ecological park, where it is possible to see exhibitions of free flying birds throughout the year.
Lake Martianez
Located in the city of Puerto de la Cruz, this is a leisure complex designed by the architect César Manrique. It forms an artificial salt water lake of 27,000 cubic metres that includes swimming pools of different sizes, restaurants, etc.
"El Drago Butterfly Farm"
This theme park offers its visitors the possibility of watching exotic butterflies flying around freely. It has over 600 butterflies from the tropical areas from all over the world, including the largest and the most spectacular that exists. In the laboratory, the visitors can watch the live birth of butterflies, as well as the stages of their complex biological cycle and all the breeding process work.
The natural habitat of these species has been reproduced in the garden, creating the suitable microclimate for them to be preserved and reproduce. Located next to the Drago millennium park at Icod de los Vinos, the butterfly park is aimed at all types of public and especially at the lovers of nature and fans of photography.
Mountain sports
Since it is a mountainous island, Tenerife offers the possibility of playing a wide range of mountain sports such as hill walking, mountain biking, hang gliding, potholing and climbing. It also has an extensive network of rural accommodation.
Sailing sports
You have the chance to practice a wide variety of sports related to the sea, such as sailing, water skiing, power boating and sub aqua sports. To these, we can add surfing, windsurfing kite surfing, canoeing and simply observing the important marine fauna, rich in cetaceans and water birds. In addition, there are new golf courses on the island, along with an increasingly numerous offering of health centres, baths, talaso-therapy centres, etc.
