Tenerife Education and Schools
From primary schooling up to university level, Tenerife offers its inhabitants the possibility of receiving a complete high-quality form of education. Over 137,439 students attend the Infants and Pre-school Education, Primary Schooling, Secondary, Professional Training and Training Cycles centers.
At present, there are 483 school centers, of which 390 are public schools and 93 are private ones. As regards Professional Training, there are over 100 professionals and offices, 36 centers that have 360 teachers and over 3,200 students. This is all completed by a broad training program in languages, both through the network of the Official School of Languages, and through academies and private centers.
The University of La Laguna is the oldest in the Canary Islands and one of the leaders in Spain. This center has been in existence for over two years, and has 26,000 students in its classrooms. Its campus and its schools are recognized for their prestige and the quality of their training. Its origins date from 1701, when augustine monks established a higher-level studies center in La Laguna. Its current academic program includes over thirty qualifications, including diplomas and degree courses.

A recent study published by the "University Gazette", placed the University of La Laguna in the 11th position among the 47 public university that there are in Spain.
In addition to European-standard training, the University of La Laguna promotes the entrepreneurial spirit of its students and the creation of companies with the "Young Companies of the ULL" program, through the Company foundation. The goals are that the student puts his academic training into practice, that he takes his first steps in the Canary Islands business world and that, furthermore he generates his own employment.
University program for entrepreneurs
The university undertakes to help to develop new companies. It will act as an intermediary for the granting of "soft credits" and will provide suitable premises for its activity to be carried out. The only condition is that, given the training nature of the program a minimum of 80% of the annual net profits of the company will have to be re-invested in training courses or in the improvement of the company.
Apart from degree and diploma courses, the students are able to study post-graduate training courses by means of one of the numerous masters´ degrees and post-graduate teaching courses that the University of La Laguna offers.
The numerous libraries and bookstores constitute more of the main resources of the island in terms of contributing to the educational work of the lecturers and the training of the students. These Tenerife documentation centers include the Central University Library of the University of La Laguna, which has bibliographical resources of some 400,000 volumes and is considered to be the best documentation center in the Canary Islands; the Municipal Historical Archive, one of the most important in the Canary Islands; the Tenerife Island Archive; the Canary Islands Studies Institute; the CajaCanarias Public Library and the UNED Library.
In addition to the University of La Laguna, there are diverse private business schools, that offer post-graduate courses and that maintain agreements with European and American universities.
